Iran intends to sign a strategic partnership with Russia

Recently, Iran announced its intention to sign a strategic partnership with Russia, similar to the treaty signed on March, 27 this year with China. Accordingly to Iranian diplomats, Teheran is about to conceive an Oriental axe between Iran, China and Russia. In this context, preliminary arrangements with Moscow would be convened and only few clauses have to be clarified.
Analysts have stated that Teheran announcement appears at the very moment when Iran has become increasingly defiant at the Western countries address, and relations with US remain tense. At the same time, they have warned about the toxicity of such Islamic Republic alliances with Beijing communist regime and quasi-dictatorship of Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Last month, Iran has been admitted to the so-called Shanghai Cooperation Organization, sponsored by Moscow and Beijing, as a proof of its intention to guide its foreign policy towards East. The new organization has invited along the two Koreas, India and Japan.
On February, Russia and Iran had common naval exercises in the Oman Gulf and the Nord-West region of the Indian Ocean, practicing artillery shootings on maritime surface targets and anti-piracy exercises. The Russian naval group was composed by a corvette, a petrol-tanker and a tug vessel, coming from the Baltic Sea fleet. Iran has participated with a missile carrier frigate, a corvette and tree other vessels. In September 2020, several Iranian ships took part in the Russian strategic naval manoeuvres called "Kavkaz".
