First incendiary balloons, then Israel’s strike

Israel carried out air strikes in Gaza as a result of Palestinians launching incendiary balloons from their region, in the first significant flare-up since the 11-day conflict. According to the Israeli military, the main targets were the compounds of Hamas, the military organization that controls Gaza.

The arson attack occurred on Tuesday, when the incendiary balloons sparked twenty fires in southern Israel. Hamas declared that the attack was a response to a march by Israeli nationalists in the occupied region of East Jerusalem.

By Wednesday morning, the calm had been reestablished. There were no casualties on either side.
